Corporal Schutt began with the RCSD and served as a field training officer and non-lethal use of force instructor. He worked in the West Rutland Patrol area for serveral years. In 2005, Corporal Schutt left the RCSD full-time to take a job with the Rutland City Police.

Since then, Corporal Schutt has remained a part-time deputy with the RCSD and frequently assists with training and other duties.
