Motor Vehicle Pursuit/Multiple Charges :

Incident: MV Pursuit/DUI
Date: 1/30/10
Officers Involved: Deputy 1/C Allen, Sgt. Stephenson; Vermont State Police Troopers, Rutland City Police Officers, VT Dept. of Liquor Control
Violations:
DUI, Possession of Marijuana, Negligent operation of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude a polic officer, violation of conditions of release.
Accused: Brian Allen of Wallingford; Kelley Staples Jr. of Danby
Summary:
On 1/30/2010 in the early morning hours, Deputy 1/C Allen attempted to stop a vehicle for erratic operation. The vehicle failed to yield and a high speed pursuit began.
Deputy Allen ultimately ended the pursuit when the vehicle turned onto a class IV town highway. An immediate perimeter was established on both ends of Horton Road by other responding officers. The driver was not located at that time.
While on Quarterline Road, Deputy Allen observed a suspicious vehilce related to the pursuit. He stopped this vehicle and found the operator was under the influence of alcohol. He was identified as Brian Allen of Wallingford. Allen was taken into custody for DUI. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was issued a ticket for underage drinking and released to a guardian.
The driver of the truck was eventually identified as Kelley Staples Jr. of Danby. Further charges will follow. Staples will face charges of Negligent Operator of a Motor Vehicle, Attempting to Elude a Police Officers and Violation of Conditions of Release. Allen will face charges of DUI and Possession of marijuana.
